Starting salary for this position is: $40.83 - $86.87 per hour based on workload category.

This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. Spokane Colleges reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. About Us

We seek applications for an adjunct (part-time) teaching position for our Human Anatomy and Physiology with Lab (BIOL&241 and BIOL&242) as needed depending on scheduling of full time faculty and student enrollment. Modality may reach from a fully on-ground lecture and laboratory combination to a hybrid learning environment where the lecture is asynchronously online and the laboratory sessions are on-ground.

SFCC is one of two accredited community colleges that comprise the Spokane Colleges. SFCC serves approximately 6000 students from across greater Spokane and five rural counties in our service area, including students from the Spokane Tribe, other Eastern Washington tribes, and from Fairchild Air Force Base. About two-thirds of our students enroll in one of our transfer degrees, and approximately one-third enroll in one of our professional-technical programs.

About the Anatomy & Physiology Instructor - Adjunct - Spokane Falls Community College


CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare for and instruct college-level courses in Human Anatomy and Physiology in face-to-face, hybrid or online formats based on need of the department.
  • Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluates student progress and provides clear, timely feedback.
  • Provide availability and accessibility to students through a combination of scheduled office hours, e-mail, and other effective means of responsive and timely communication.
  • Provide timely feedback and support to students.
  • Maintain accurate records for course grades.
  • May participate in department and general faculty meetings whenever germane.
  • Maintain professional standards in interactions with the college community.
  • Comply with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follow established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, student safety and health issues, and related administrative processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's of Science in Biology or closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Prior teaching experience in Human Anatomy and Physiology within higher education.
  • Communicating effectively in oral and written English in a classroom and with other professionals.
  • Working/interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
  • Acceptance of and willingness to support the role that community colleges serve in higher education, and specifically the mission, values, goals and objectives of the Community Colleges of Spokane.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution and the community/technical college system.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success in classes comprised of students with a wide range of abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting a teaching, learning and working environment that honors diversity, equity and inclusion.

DESIRED QULAIFICATIONS
  • An earned doctorate degree from an accredited institution with emphasis in Biology or related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Two or more academic years of relevant teaching experience in higher education, including community college teaching experience.
  • Experience in online and hybrid course format coupled with experience in using learning management systems to effectively run online and hybrid courses

Benefits Information

Adjunct faculty must work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full-time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only). Once determined to be eligible, benefits begin on the first day of the month following the beginning of the quarter. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAA-Cref retirement plan or WA State Retirement Plan; leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract.
