Springfield Technical Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology. We seek an engaging and student-focused educator who is committed to excellence in teaching, curriculum development, and service. The successful candidate will value inclusive pedagogy, community engagement, and innovative teaching strategies that support student achievement.

The successful candidate will be committed to STCC's equity and access mission, providing guidance that supports diverse learners with varied cultural and educational backgrounds. They should employ a range of teaching techniques including lectures, group work, discussions, and educational technology to engage all students effectively. Encouraging deeper exploration of course content, the candidate will incorporate learner-centered practices such as self-reflection and critical thinking while assessing student performance through written assignments, presentations, testing, civic engagement, and portfolio development. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as the ideal candidate will respond to evolving trends in higher education by integrating technology in both face-to-face and online modalities and staying current with advancements in psychological theory and practice.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Teach a variety of psychology courses, including introductory and specialized courses like Counseling Techniques, Child Psychology, Adolescent Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and Theories of Personality, with an emphasis on student-centered learning.
  • Develop and implement teaching strategies that support diverse learners, including first-generation, non-traditional, and neurodiverse students.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students, fostering future academic and career success.
  • Engage in curriculum development, assessment, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in service activities within the department, college, and broader community to advance the missions and goals of the department, School of Liberal and Professional Studies, and the College.
  • Contribute to initiatives that promote student learning, equity, inclusion, and student retention.


Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Psychology or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching at the postsecondary level.
  • Commitment to student success, equity, and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds, including those from underrepresented and underserved communities.
  • Understanding of best practices for supporting student engagement and retention.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Psychology or Psy.D.
  • Specialization in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
  • Professional practical experience in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching at the postsecondary level.
  • Experience teaching psychology courses at a community college serving diverse student populations.
  • Experience with high-impact teaching practices, such as active learning, culturally responsive pedagogy, service-learning, project-based learning, and capstone experiences.
  • Familiarity with online and hybrid course delivery.

Additional Information:
Salary: $58,438 - $67,833 annually, in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
