Starting Salary Range: This full-time, tenure track instructor will enjoy a 175 Day work schedule ranging from $68,768 to $105,559 per year, salary determined by documented education and experience. Maximum initial salary step placement on the 175-day Faculty Salary Schedule is step 9. An annual doctoral stipend of $4,591 is granted to eligible faculty.

About this Opportunity:
The position begins on Monday, August 18, 2025 pending Governing Board ratification. Classes may be in a traditional "in class" setting, online, or hybrid format scheduled over summer and/or winter months, and at various campus locations, including days, evenings, and/or weekends.
We are seeking a candidate who has the requisite skills to teach a broad range of courses in two-dimensional (2D) art, which may include foundations in 2D design and color, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, figure drawing, painting, mixed media, and lettering, as well as someone who has knowledge of equipment, facilities, and health and safety protocols related to these 2D practices.
The optimal candidate is an effective communicator and team player who can facilitate smooth operations of the program and facilities, develop cohesive strategies for growth and sustainability, develop student pathways into and through Cabrillo College to career and transfer, and foster student success.

In addition to teaching duties, faculty are expected to participate in professional assignments which include participation in division, department and sharedgovernance activities such as participation in curriculum design and program planning, Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) assessment, office and lab hours, and participation in college wide committees.

About the Department: The Art Studio program at Cabrillo College consists of 2D and 3D design, drawing, painting, graphic arts, printmaking, small metals, sculpture, woodworking, 3D digital fabrication, and ceramics. The 2D art facilities include printmaking, painting, and drawing studios, and access to a digital lab and FabLab/makerspace. The student body consists of transfer students, students from other degree programs, and community skill-builders. The Art Studio program enjoys proximity and relationship to the Visual, Applied, and Performing Arts (VAPA) Division, which includes thriving art history, art photography, digital media, music, theater, and dance programs and facilities.

Examples of Duties
- Teach assigned classes, primarily at the Aptos campus, but also at the Watsonville campus as needed, which may include evening and/or off-campus assignments with limited online/hybrid option
- Develop and revise course materials as necessary to ensure innovative and creative teaching and learning
- Engage in participatory governance committees, processes, and initiatives such as Guided Pathways
- Participate in departmental decision making and development
- Serve as faculty advisor for a student art club
- Maintain timely and accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress
- Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours
- Cooperate with and participate as may be required in District investigations and/or student grievance matters of alleged unlawful harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
- Complete required District trainings such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Education from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited organization and licensure qualifications:
- Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation, of community college students, faculty, and staff AND
- Master's in fine arts, art, or art history OR
- Bachelor's in fine arts, art, or art history AND Master's in humanities OR
- A lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in Art OR
- The *equivalent

- "Master's in fine arts" as used here refers to any master's degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the "Master of Fine Arts" (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other non-plastic arts.

Required Professional Expertise:
- Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable professional field, curriculum development, review, and assessment of student learning outcomes
- Knowledge and understanding of programs such as Guided Pathways, that address commitment to equity-minded and culturally responsive teaching strategies enhancing student success

- Evidence of professional activities and service beyond primary teaching assignments
Required Qualifications/Performance Expectations:
- Teaching experience in several of the following areas: foundations in 2D design and color, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, figure drawing, painting, mixed media, and lettering.
- Oversight of facilities, equipment, maintenance, upgrades, and planning in the 2D area.
- Communication with staff and faculty in the Art Department regarding instructional integrity and health and safety protocols.
- Research and development of curriculum, certificates, and programming to align with professional practice, transfer pathways, and career preparation.
- Development of cross-disciplinary opportunities, collaborations, and partnerships across the college and within the larger community.
- Experience with pursuit of grant funding related to student success in the studio arts and participate in student scholarship award process.
- Outreach to area high schools, universities, industry, and community organizations.
Desired Qualifications/Performance Expectations:
- Minimum of two years of college teaching experience in 2D art, preferably in a community college setting
- Printmaking expertise: screen printing, relief printing, intaglio, etching
- Successful online teaching experience
- Interest in and/or experience with department leadership
